With a Medicare referral

A Better Access referral lets your patient claim a Medicare rebate under the clinical psychology items. It can come from a GP or prescribed medical practitioner at the patient’s MyMedicare practice, or their usual medical practitioner, with a Mental Health Treatment Plan. A psychiatrist or paediatrician can also refer directly.

The first referral covers up to six sessions, within the limit of 10 individual sessions each calendar year. Further sessions need a review of the plan and a new referral.

A Better Access referral includes

• The client’s name, date of birth and contact details
• Symptoms or diagnosis, and current medications
• The number of sessions referred
• Whether a Mental Health Treatment Plan has been prepared
• Addressed to Jessica Chadakorn, Clinical Psychologist, signed and dated

Without a Medicare referral

Schools, employers, allied health professionals, community organisations and other practitioners can refer without a Medicare referral, and people can also book directly. Sessions are then paid privately, and clients can claim from private health extras if their cover includes psychology.

A short letter or email with relevant background is welcome but not required. If an organisation is funding sessions, please arrange invoicing with the clinic’s reception before the first appointment.
