## How Jess brings different approaches together

Cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) looks at the links between thoughts, feelings and behaviour. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on how you relate to difficult thoughts and on acting in line with your values. Schema therapy and psychodynamic therapy explore patterns that began earlier in life and often show up in relationships. Dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) skills are practical strategies for managing intense emotions and interpersonal difficulties.

Jess works integratively. Her choice of approach follows from her assessment of what keeps your difficulties going and from your goals, so you don't need to choose one beforehand. Therapy for worry, for example, might begin with CBT strategies and later draw on schema therapy to explore the earlier patterns behind it. Each approach has its own page below.

- [Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)](https://jess.ac/approaches/cbt.md): CBT examines how thoughts, feelings, body sensations and actions influence one another, and uses practical techniques to recognise unhelpful patterns and test new responses.
- [Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)](https://jess.ac/approaches/act.md): ACT, said like the word act, draws on mindfulness and values to make room for difficult thoughts and feelings, so more energy can go towards what matters to you.
- [Schema Therapy](https://jess.ac/approaches/schema-therapy.md): Schema Therapy works with long-standing patterns in how people feel and relate to others, tracing them to early experiences and the core emotional needs that went unmet.
- [DBT skills](https://jess.ac/approaches/dbt-skills.md): DBT skills come from dialectical behaviour therapy, which pairs acceptance with change. They offer practical ways to understand strong emotions, tolerate distress and handle difficult conversations.
- [Psychodynamic therapy](https://jess.ac/approaches/psychodynamic-therapy.md): A conversational therapy that looks at how earlier experiences and relationships shape the way you feel and relate to people now, and at patterns that keep repeating.
